Since 2004, Mount Mary College has offered art therapist practitioners a life- changing, culturally enriching experience led by Dr. Lynn Kapitan in cooperation with Anabel Torres, Executive Director of Cantera (Centro Educativo Popular de Nicaragua). Community Art Therapy in Nicaragua is an exceptional opportunity to deepen and renew a sense of responsibility for our shared world and to act with
compassion for something larger than ourselves – as art therapists who aspire to live with gratitude and commitment to social justice and the common good.
This intensive hands-on practice opportunity took place in Managua and environs working cross-culturally with local community development teams who are dedicated to helping people build a more humane, egalitarian, and sustainable future. Social action projects involved art therapy with preschoolers, at-risk youth, rural environmentalists, and other needs.
