Bio/Artist Statement

I view Art Therapy as the artist's palette wherein I
squeeze out the tubes of psychology, theology, fine art and theater. My
brush is the earned wisdom of life experience that blends this rich
mixture as I apply it to the canvas of my community.
When asked in First College at Metropolitan State University, "What does it mean to be an educated person?" my initial thoughts included many definitions. Those definitions sifted out the strongest truth, "To know one's spiritual source and to nurture that relationship." My reasoning is that when people do not know the spiritual source in themselves, an empty space remains. No matter what level of education or status, people often search outside of themselves to find something, anything to fill that void. Often, they search in unfulfilling places which can lead to unnecessary, harmful setbacks and destruction. That was my personal experience.
God is my spiritual source and He has gifted me with the ability to make art, and to encourage others to soften their hearts through art-making. Once I came to that realization, my education and work history became clear - in all of my professional positions, the arts and volunteering were a constant. Coupling these interests was a natural propulsion towards art therapy. I graduated from the Adler Graduate School in May of 2014 with a Masters Degree in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy with an emphasis in Art Therapy.
I know my calling - working with people of all ages through creative art and theater to inspire hope and healing.
